Every ingredient, and exactly why it is there

A short list only works if each line earns its place. Here is the job description for all eight.

Grass-fed beef tallow

The foundation. Rendered tallow closely mirrors the lipids in healthy skin, so it absorbs intuitively instead of sitting on the surface, and it naturally carries vitamins A, D, E, and K.

Emu oil

Rich in essential fatty acids and prized for how easily it absorbs, it helps the balm melt in without a greasy or waxy after-feel.

Mango seed butter*

A plant butter that softens and smooths, giving the balm its velvety texture.

Grapefruit peel oil*

The only scent in the jar. A light, natural citrus note that fades quickly after application. No "fragrance," no "parfum."

Sunflower seed oil*

A lightweight oil rich in linoleic acid that supports a healthy skin barrier and helps the formula spread evenly.

Rosemary leaf extract*

Nature's answer to a preservative system: it helps keep the oils fresh without synthetic stabilizers.

Sea buckthorn fruit oil*

An antioxidant-dense berry oil that delivers vitamins and essential fatty acids for visible glow.

Vitamin E oil*

A classic antioxidant that protects both the formula and your skin from oxidative stress.

Three reasons label readers keep this jar on the counter

Reason one

One step, and you are done

The ten-step routine exists partly to fix what the earlier steps caused. A barrier-first balm skips the loop: cleanse, apply, go. One jar covers face, body, hands, and every dry patch in between, morning and night.

Applying Talova balm to the face

Reason two

It speaks your skin's language

Most creams are mostly water, held together by emulsifiers and stabilizers. Grass-fed tallow closely resembles the lipids already in your skin, so the nutrients are delivered in a form your skin recognizes. Moisture that supports the barrier instead of masking dryness.

Reason three

The label is the marketing

No proprietary complexes. No trademarked molecules you cannot look up. Every ingredient is a whole ingredient with a name you already know, sourced from suppliers who share the standard. If a line cannot justify itself, it does not make the jar.

Whole citrus, one of Talova's botanical ingredients
"When we moved to the desert, our skin struggled. We kept coming back to the same answer we had found with food: fewer, whole ingredients. That is the entire idea behind Talova."

Marcello and Madison Giacalone, founders of Talova. Formulated and made in the USA in small batches.

Questions label readers ask

Is tallow really safe to use on my face?
Yes. High-quality, properly rendered tallow closely resembles the lipids naturally found in healthy skin. The balm is gentle enough for daily facial use, including dry and sensitive skin, while still being effective for the body.
Will it clog my pores?
Thoughtfully formulated tallow does not behave like heavy waxes or petroleum-based occlusives. Because it mirrors the skin's natural oils, it absorbs intuitively and nourishes the barrier rather than sitting on the surface. If you have specific sensitivities, patch test first.
Does it smell like tallow?
No. Properly rendered tallow has a neutral scent. The only aroma comes from the botanical ingredients, a light natural citrus note that fades quickly after application.
Will it feel greasy?
No. The balm is rich, but it melts on contact and absorbs cleanly when warmed between the fingers. Skin feels nourished and soft, not waxy, sticky, or coated.
Why only 8 ingredients when other brands use 30?
Because most of those 30 are there for the formula, not for your skin: emulsifiers to hold water and oil together, stabilizers, texture agents, preservative systems, and fragrance to cover it all up. Start with ingredients that do not need fixing, and the list gets short on its own.
Is it safe during pregnancy?
The balm is formulated without ingredients commonly avoided during pregnancy. As with any skincare product, we recommend consulting your healthcare provider if you have specific concerns.
How should I use it?
Warm a small amount between your fingertips until it melts into a smooth texture, then gently press into clean, dry skin. Use it on the face, body, or targeted dry areas, morning and night or anytime skin needs comfort.
